About our Research Group...

Indoor Aerosol Project

Productivity Project

In the field of human resource management, humans are considered not only as members of a workforce but also as the constituents and resources of a nation, a company, and an organization. In terms of the effective use of human resources, the development and creation of a productive indoor environment is important because of the long periods spent in indoor environments. A significant number of papers and reports have shown the qualitative and quantitative effects of indoor environmental conditions on productivity and that indoor temperature, indoor air quality, ventilation and other factors affect human performance. Although indoor environmental quality (IEQ) affects productivity, the existing results of research on quantitative relationships between human performance and indoor environmental factors are insufficient for the development of a future design method for indoor environments. The development of an indoor environmental design method that contributes to the improvement and advancement of human productivity is an important topic in the design of indoor and architectural environments.

Coupled Simulation of CFD and SIR Project

The indoor environment can play a significant role in the transmission and exposure of various contaminants. In some emerging aerial infections, such as influenza virus, tuberculosis virus, and other biological and chemical contaminants, the airborne route of transmission is thought to be important to evaluate exposure health risk. In this research project, we try to investigate the relationship between epidemiological model, e.g. classic SIR model proposed by Kermack & Mckendrich and Wells-Riley model, and introduce the analytical procedure of coupled analysis of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) based prediction of unsteady contaminant concentration distribution and basic SIR model to predict exposure risk of residents in enclosed space.

Development of Virtual Manikin and Computational Respiratory Air Tract model for Exposure Analysis

Breathing is one of the most essential activities in our lives and we might not realize the significance of these activities. The basic function of breathing is to supply oxygen from ambient air and remove carbon dioxide from the blood stream in our lungs. The air we breathe every moment comprises oxygen as well as a number of suspended particles. As a consequence, human beings experience lifelong exposure to billions of particles via inhalation. The health risk to humans is increasing owing to the amount of hazardous inhaled particles deposited in the respiratory tract. In this study, Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) technology has been applied as an alternative approach for providing an un-derstanding of the air flow pattern as well as the aerodynamic deposition of particles in the human respiratory tract.
